Ok so my birthday is very soon (im turning 16) and I really don’t know what I want.
However, I have one little idea. My brother got an electric guitar last christmas, and I was thinking of a bass guitar. Ive been considering it for a while and doing summer research. I have a friend who bought a really good bass a few months ago but she barely used it and now she wants to sell it because she says its "not for her" for her own reasons.
I used to play piano but I grew tired of it, and I kinda want the bass. But my brother said its stupid i should get an electric guitar if at all, because its better you can play songs on it and bass is just accompaniment, and you have to practice A LOT until you can play really good solos. I asked my parents and they said they’re fine with it, I can buy it anytime I want. I don’t know if I should. Money is not a problem. How much time do i need to spend on it to learn quite a bit? i dont know how much time I will have next school year and how much fun ill have with it. I really don’t know. ANY ADVICE PLEASE? if possible from people who are in similar situations or some bass players?
And I also would like to know what kinds of songs you can play? I only know that you can do accompaniment to metal, you can play jazz and funk..anything else? its not a solo instrument? should i take up piano? ahh im confused!

I asked this question but nobody answered:should i get a bass guitar?

How can I get my parents to let me stop piano?

I have been taking cello for about 7 years, and really like it. I took piano for five years & then quit because I really hated it. Now I am taking jazz piano & HATE my teacher and playing. but my parents will not let me quit. I have told them that I will focus more on my cello and school work, and that I truly find no enjoyment whatsoever in playing piano, but to no avail. I have started taking ukranian cello and and am studying for the ssat, & so have limited time ontop of that. PLEASE HOW CAN I MAKE MY PARENTS LET MY QUIT??!!
