I recommend the Jamey Aebersold books/cds. He’s got thousands of songs available as play alongs, so you can get practice soloing and playing heads.
You can start out with his II-V-I or the Blues.
At any rate, they are fun and the rhythm section never gets tired of playing the changes for you.
I am really not sure that there is such a thing. Playing jazz piano is not like learning classical piano where you progress in grades. Jazz is a style you assimilate over the years.
Improvisation is the key to jazz and I think you would best learn this by listening to the great jazz pianists.
Perhaps there is some course or program but I would have to wonder about its effectiveness. Can improvisation really be taught ?
It would help to know where you live? Chicago has some amazing programs for learning all about jazz. If you play already, you could probably learn tons just by watching your dad.
