I’ve been playing piano for about 9 years and love jazz music and would love to be able to play jazz piano freely and not so technically (or coming at it with a classical mind that I have now). The only thing that’s holding me back [besides money
] is I’m not too good at improvisation. I took my Keyboard Harmony exam (playing not written) and I can tell you it didn’t go well, I’m not even sure if I passed yet but I wouldn’t really count on it. I’m so nervous that because I had so much trouble with this type of Harmony which has been said to be a kind of base for Jazz Piano, I won’t have a real chance at learning Jazz Piano. If anyone has studied jazz piano could you tell me if you need to already be good to really learn? Or will practice and studying will become better (once I start studying it with a teacher)?
I have a teacher in mind already, I need to talk to my parents about it still, they know I’m interested but they don’t really know the extent of that. If someone could help me out that would be amazing!
Thanks!

Every so often I usually come across a piano piece I really love and I learn to play it but this hasn’t happened recently and I have not come across any pieces of music that just jump out at me and I am getting tired of playing my old pieces.
So I am asking you to help me. Can you think of anything good to play on the piano?
Suggest anything..I usually go for something classical but I wouldn’t mind trying some jazz or rag.
Oh and nothing higher than a grade 5 difficulty!
Thanks

Something like piano or guitar, or a "challenge" like that
It would be cool to go back to school next year saying that I learned something cool and I could impress people and all that jazz! Haha

I’m learning a jazz piece and i’ve figured out all the chords except for b^0 and ct7 and gt7. What do these letters and numbers mean? Im thinking t is another way of saying dim and maybe 0 is augmented???
Please answer, I can’t really find results anywhere else.
Thanks, Megan

I’m playing piano for a retirement party in 3 days. It just has to be background music for 2-ish hours. So far I have a bit of jazz, popular, and classical that I’m playing for an exam. I’m just not sure what would be the best music to play, or what I can learn in two days, as it was kind of short notice. Are there any songs that are really popular with people maybe age 60(?). I have quite a few simple piano books.

my intention is to become better at jazz guitar, piano, basic theory (eventually contemporary and jazz theory) and aural) as far as piano goes i feel i should i start with learning various styles and just generally improving piano technique and then il move on to jazz stuff. iv been playing piano for about 2 maybe 3 years, and guitar for almost 6 maybe more but am just starting to learn jazz guitar
Warm up exercises; stretches, massages
Guitar – 3 hour practice time – Master Classes by Al DiMeola/Bob Aslanian, Serious Jazz Practice Book, & Chord Chemistry
Piano – 2 hour practice time – Piano Handbook by carl humphries
Music Theory – 2 hour reading and practicing from Tonal Harmony textbook
Aural Skills – 2 hour practice time – Transcription from musicians guide to aural skills by joel philips, Auralia, Sight Singing from ottman text
so what do you think, is this too drawn out? lol
i should probably also mention that i went through the first year of theory and am continuing to learn on my own where i left off since i wont be majoring in music.
