i’ve been playing the piano since i was 5 and played mostly classical music. not to brag but i think i’m pretty good, considering how long i’ve been playing. i am now a freshman in highschool and i have recently stopped taking lessons.i really enjoy piano and i still play on my own and find my own sheet music.
do you think i have a shot if i auditon. i can read notes well, but will it be different than what i’m used to playing? would i have to start taking lessons again?

A little quick background, I played Baritone/Tube and Piano for 7-8 years through middle school and high school. I was decent and liked music. I learned the classical music style. Through initial college, I was too busy and stopped playing.
During my junior and senor year, I bought a keyboard and played by chord and lead sheet. I got a guitar during my senor year. It’s been about a year, and I’m out of undergrad, and I took a music theory class before I graduated.
Guitar was pretty simple to me to start. All I really had to do was increase my finger strength and agility. I never took a formal lesson, but I want to be better. My friend also introduced me to speech level singing with vowels and scales. I’ve been messing around absolute pitch and relative recognition.
Anyway, I want to get better. I’m taking graduate level class in engineering and have limited amount of time. I want to take lessons, but I don’t know what to take.
I tried to take lesson 2 years ago, but all I got was more classical piano. I like classical, but I want to learn to play by ear. All I got from that teacher was more techniques on classical music with some useful arpeggio. I like music but don’t want it to be a burden.
So what should I look for? I want some contemporary jazz/pop. I haven’t learned the lower frets on guitar. I still have latency between some more difficult chord transitions. I want to learn how to sing a little better and play by ear. Thanks!

I currently play Baritone in my school band, trombone in jazz band, flute on my own, piano lessons, and percussion lessons. I used to love composing also, which was my main thing in music. Now I belive I am just coming out of a long and hard depression I had and I am just not as intrested as I used to be in all of it. Music does not have the same affect on me, and I want it to. What do I do? Please help me I am desperate.

Hey guys,
Im very eager to learn to play jazz, improv, comping, whatever they call it. I played classical piano for about 6 years now. I’ve also been playing the guitar for about 4 years now and am familiar with theory; scales, modes, major minor diminished aug flat 5 9 , all that good stuff. I want to learn more though, somewhat along the style of Keith Jaret, wes montgomery, i also like al di meola, holdsworth, charlie parker. If anybody can recommend me any books or something that I can do, I can’t do lessons, I can’t afford em yet, it would be great!!
Thanks

I’m in my sophomore year of high school and I’ve never been asked on a date or to a dance. I don’t even think I’ve been told any guys like me. I am really busy all the time with three AP classes this year (four next year), band (flute), jazz band (keyboard), private piano lessons (got 2nd in state last year), swim team, volunteering, and a job at my church on Sundays. My GPA is a 4.4 this year. Anyway, if your reason is because that I am too busy or whatever, what can I do to let guys know that I want to be asked on dates and to dances? Does it mean I’m just plain unattractive? I go to a small semi-private school and I am the only asian at my school
Just thought I’d mention that. Also, I have a laid back kind of style: straight dark brown/black hair, bangs, shop at Hollister and A&F…

I’m thirteen and have taken piano lessons for 10 years, and recently i have taken an interest in jazz. I would like to take piano lessons specific to jazz style – does anybody know where i can take these lessons in the green bay/appleton area?

I’m taking lessons right now. The thing is, I love rock music, and I also love orchestral music. It seems like all of the music I love does not involve the piano. Also, I love almost all music, but the type of music I don’t like includes the slow jazz that my piano teacher is into. I also really hate soft rock (that I wouldn’t even consider rock) and it tends to have piano in it. This might be because my mom always forced it upon me (she always listens to it) so there for I hated it growing up. In other words, I know there has to be some cool music out there with piano, and I do love soft ballads played by the piano, though the only ones I hear are from movie or t.v. show soundtracks. Does anyone have anything that I should listen to that might inspire me to keep playing the piano? Right now, I’m not very good, I’ve only been playing for 5 months.

what do you think about this? will it be too much for me at one time…….should i go for it or should i wait?
i practice my music every day piano about 30 min- 40
and clarinet about 20 min [ unless i get a new peice of music i will play for about 1 hour]

I’ve been listening to Thelonious Monk’s "Round Midnight" and thought it’d be fun to put together a playlist of poems featuring only solo piano and no other accompaniment. Suggestions? It can be from any time period in the history of jazz.
