How To Play Jazz Piano

Hey, in this video I am going to show you how to play a bit of Jazz. I apologise sincerely for accidently having my piano transposed. I didn’t know it was in the wrong key untill after I recorded the video. I hope the video is still helpful in some way. Ben

i have been playing classical for years and now i’m interested in jazz piano.

I want to find a few new bands and maybe expand my musical horizon because I’m writing my own music and want to try and make it a little bit different and unique from most music today. the 3 main genres I like are Piano Rock, Acoustic Rock and Punk Pop. Bands that i like from each of them are:

-Besides Hottopic, where can I get EmoCore band tees for under 10-15$?
-Brunette hair is or isn’t Emo?

Am a student of music learning piano (western classical and jazz) under ABRSM. Well I hv also programmed, arranged and designed some compositions of mine. I’m very much interested in sound designing. But, I am unable to find the salary, job prospects and good training institutes of it in India. I searched the net, but am unable to find proper information. Kindly help me please…

I took piano lab as an elective last year in school. I "sky rocketed" as my teacher said and I am more advanced then most of the kids but really Im just on book 2 while theyre still on book 1. What he doesnt know is I basically skipped all of the middle of book 1 and played a couple songs from the end on book 1 that I wanted to play and when he saw me he upgraded me to book 2 (level two songs basically). Well the thing is in book 1 I learned songs in a few hours because they were so easy and I got used to it coming naturally. Now with the harder songs I get REALLY frustrated and just give up!
Im trying to get used to combining left hand and right hand with the left hand playing something totally different then the right hand. In all my other songs it was just chords or broken chords in the left hand. Now its REALLY HARD! plus it’s almost impossible to learn a song from the book if I dont know what its supposed to sound like because Im terrible with counting beats and stuff so I only do good with songs if I know how they go. So my Q is:
How can i practice reading music; I mean the beats and stuff? I know what a half note and a whole note is but i haave trouble keeping time.
Is there an easier way to read notes that go way off the staff its really annoying to try and figure out a note that is like 5 ledger lines from the staff!
How can I get better with left and right hand playing. I need patience but I dont have much of that!

PS Im thinking of taking lessons but I dont have alot of $ and I dont want to waste it. Im taking piano 2 as an elective this yr so should I wait to see instead of spending the $?

why do the songs "so much love" by the rocket summer and "love song" by sarah bareilles sound so similar?
like the piano intro?

i’m totally loving "so much love" a lot more. i’ve had more than enough of "love song on the radio, and basically everywhere i go, but that’s besides the point.

which one do you guys like better?
and have you noticed this similarity?
everytime i ehar the intro to "love song" on the radio (every 10 minutes) i’m like ahh! the rocket summer! but it’s always such a bummer.

I’ve been playing piano for about 9 years and love jazz music and would love to be able to play jazz piano freely and not so technically (or coming at it with a classical mind that I have now). The only thing that’s holding me back [besides money ] is I’m not too good at improvisation. I took my Keyboard Harmony exam (playing not written) and I can tell you it didn’t go well, I’m not even sure if I passed yet but I wouldn’t really count on it. I’m so nervous that because I had so much trouble with this type of Harmony which has been said to be a kind of base for Jazz Piano, I won’t have a real chance at learning Jazz Piano. If anyone has studied jazz piano could you tell me if you need to already be good to really learn? Or will practice and studying will become better (once I start studying it with a teacher)?

I have a teacher in mind already, I need to talk to my parents about it still, they know I’m interested but they don’t really know the extent of that. If someone could help me out that would be amazing!

Every so often I usually come across a piano piece I really love and I learn to play it but this hasn’t happened recently and I have not come across any pieces of music that just jump out at me and I am getting tired of playing my old pieces.

So I am asking you to help me. Can you think of anything good to play on the piano?

Suggest anything..I usually go for something classical but I wouldn’t mind trying some jazz or rag.
Oh and nothing higher than a grade 5 difficulty!
